Traveling alone in the Rocky Mountain West was risky business in the early part of the 19th century. The lure of the mountains was strong and many a trapper gave in to the temptation to stay one more season. Heading down out of the high country, this trapper is hopeful to find a little shelter and a place out of the wind where he can hole up for the evening on his way down from the place where cold comes early. |
